FEEDING OUR CATS AND KITTENS
This is purely for those of you who will be taking one or more Spiritwind Kittens home and as a general interest piece for anyone else.
We are not saying you must do the same, this is what we feed and something we find works well for us!
From birth, our job is (hopefully) easy as mum usually does all the feeding until weaning at approx. 4/5 weeks of age.
When we start to wean kittens, we usually start with a mix of 'Cimicat' powdered milk food on a 5ml spoon, from which they begin to suck and then lick.
Then we progress to Cimicat and Whiskas kitten in loaf (or Kitten Chicken Applaws, whichever is tolerated the best) mashed to a liquid type paste, this is put onto a flat plate, which by this time they can lick from quite easily.
Kittens then eat Whiskas Kitten in loaf on its own whilst still feeding off mum until approx 9 weeks old at which time they start eating cooked chicken and Burns Kitten Duck and Rice kibble, mum is usually still letting them feed and as long as she is happy to do that, we are happy to let her. The comfort and extra milk the kittens receive makes for happy healthy babies.
Kittens staying with us eat Burns Adult Chicken and Brown Rice from 6 months old or Purina dependant on their palette, with extra freshly boiled chicken and minced whole rabbit as a treat a few times a week.
Cats being cats they get fed up eating the same food (even if very expensive) so we change them every so often onto James Wellbeloved Ocean Fish and Rice plus the Turkey variety kibble and as a treat they have Applaws Adult Chicken and Cheese wet food.
All the cats like white fish and grated cheese while some of them especially 'Spiritwind Kashin' loves lightly boiled Broccoli, Swede and Cauliflower.
We do keep high fat treats to a minimum, but like all cats they are adept at stealing (do I mean finding?) what they want.
